I arrived at the State House at 10:30 this morning. I was able to meet with several groups in my office prior to our usual caucus lunch at 11:30 to discuss and refine our agenda for the week.
SB263, a Veterans Preference Employment Bill for State Employees was before the Governmental Affairs Committee at 1PM. This is one of the administration’s bills and was brought to me by the Department of Veterans Affairs for consideration. It allows preference for a Service Disabled Veteran qualified to perform and be considered for a position. I was successful in having this passed out of committee. I was then able to join members of the House and Senate in a Joint Session for a speech from Ukrainian Ambassador Olexander Motsyk who is visiting in Montgomery this week.
The Senate went into session at 2 PM and debated 14 mostly non-controversial bills. Readers can review the bills at this link. The Senate adjourned for the day just before 5 PM. The Huntsville Madison County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a reception this evening in conjunction with Alabama Aerospace Week and I look forward to visiting with folks from back home. We have a busy week planned, full of activities for Alabama Aerospace Week and I’m proud to help showcase the talent and skills of residents of North Alabama, and our impact to our state and nation.
